Jonathan Ramsay's thoughts on baby rates

Mr Jonathan Ramsay shares his thoughts on baby rates during lockdown...

We understand that these are worrying times for everyone around the world. Our sympathy goes out to all those that have been affected by Covid-19 and those that have had treatment and operations delayed.

We hope that tests and investigations will be back to ‘normal’ within the next month or so. However, it is though that invasive procedures such as surgery and cycles of IVF and ICSI may not be possible until a later date.

Although this may seem hugely disheartening to many of our infertility patients, this delay may have some potential benefits. Mr Jonathan Ramsay who specialises in male factor infertility has looked at studies and has found that "before IVF and ICSI were widely available. Although not often quoted now, this data showed cumulative birth rates of 10-15%, and this was without any treatment or advice."

Many of you may know that Mr Ramsay is sure that nutrition and lifestyle are equally important for fertility. The benefits of nutritional advice (and careful use of antioxidants) have only recently been measurable by looking at the DNA quality of the Sperm. But because we are usually trying to improve things ’before the next cycle' we seldom allow enough time to see what nature might have achieved alone.

Thus we should work towards taking care of nutrition, antioxidants and lifestyle changes, and of course with the removal of some of the stresses of life before Covid-19, we expect that the natural conception rate over the next few months might surprise us all.

If anyone wants to be in touch, we are available by phone for consultations, and our team of PAs will be happy to schedule appointments for you. In the meantime, stay well, stay optimistic....and stay home !
